Moving To University is a big step into the unknown and when it comes to cooking skills it has to be said, not many students are experts in it. Although ready meals are okay for you on the rare occassion, I have to say that they would not do you any good in the long run and there are foods you can buy for less money that will be a lot better.
Starches
Getting enough carbs down you is something that is very important indeed and there are many options out there you can take.
Porridge is brilliant as it is full of goodness and you can get a whole bag of it for around a £1 nowadays and it will last you a good few weeks.. Although chocolate isnt the best thing to add to porridge you can do it in the same way you can add fruit and honey.
One of the other options to look into is the potato, there are so many things you can do with this.. One of the best forms of the potato is the baked potato as you can put many filings such as tuna, cheese and beans into it.. Of course on top of the baked potato you can look into boiling, roasting or frying them, the limits are endless!.
5 A Day
if you are anything like I was at University you will not be too bothered about getting those five a day in there but there are some out there that are cheap to buy. Carrots have to be top on the most affordable vegetable and this is why they are very popular amongst students.
Protein
This is also very important baked beans on toast is actually a great way to get both a bit of protein and carbohydrates. On top of this make sure you cook yourself some decent meats from time to time as well.
So although you cannot afford private catering and it is way too early to think about things like corporate caterers you can get yourself some decent tasting food.
